Twenty City officials received the VIP treatment this morning before being presented with well-deserved certificates at the second edition of the Joburg Service With Pride (SWP) Breakfast with MMC Ntombi Khumalo and MMC Mpho Phalatse.

The SWP initiative recognises City employees who go beyond the call of duty in helping better the lives of residents through their service.

When residents receive excellent customer service from City employees, this speaks volumes about the municipality and its efforts to deliver efficient service delivery to its people.

MMC Khumalo said SWP is about the residents, but more importantly about encouraging employees to always serve residents like they would like to be served.

“I call on all City employees to follow in the footsteps of these CoJ shining stars; to always go beyond the call of duty in serving residents of Joburg with pride. Our responsibility as a caring government is to always put the people first in everything that we do,” said MMC Khumalo.

MMC Khumalo believes the recognition of good work by employees will inspire a vibrant culture that breeds an aura of excellence, focus, attention to detail, inspirational and progressive attitude.

“We are here today to reward and honour you for the diligent service you have rendered to our most important custodians - the people of Johannesburg. Your deeds are helping to create a professional civil service that will serve Joburg residents with pride. Thanks to you for heeding the call and becoming the ambassadors of this mayoral initiative,” she said.

MMC Phalatse said City officials need to create a culture of always providing good and exemplary service. She said the establishment of a professional public service was the stepping stone to laying a foundation for future generations.

“We need to create a culture of always providing good, exemplary service. We are here to highlight an important principle of appreciating diligent individuals who often go beyond the call of duty to serve the residents of Johannesburg,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Liziwe Ntshinga - Makoro, Regional Director for Region E, said it was a heart-warming experience to be lauded for going the extra mile. She confessed that it was the first time that she gets an award for service excellence and that has motivated her to do even more.

“Residents normally complain about bad service and incompetency. Thanks to my team and the support we get from all the departments, otherwise we wouldn’t achieve what we have achieved without their support.

“I want to assure the executive mayor that we’ll always try to go beyond the call of duty to ensure that we serve the people who pay our salaries with pride,” said Ntshinga-Makoro.
