The City of Joburg said it regreted the accident in which a Rea Vaya bus collided with a minibus transporting scholars in Rockville last Tuesday morning.

Eight scholars and the mini bus taxi driver in the mini bus were injured while five (5) adults and the driver from the Rea Vaya bus were injured. 

The injured passengers were taken to Chris Hani (Baragwaneth) Hospital and Chiawelo Clinic.

JMPD and EMS arrived immediately on the scene and were able to offer assistance and support to the injured passengers.

“We are saddened by the situation and urge drivers to be extra cautious and obey the rules of the road at all times to avoid accidents” said, MMC of Transport, Cllr. Nonhlanhla Makhuba. I wish the injured passengers and drivers a speedy recovery,” she added.

The bus operating company Piotrans will provide a detailed report on the cause of the accident to the City. JMPD will also investigate the accident and appropriate action will be taken.
