Seven Colour Sundays are back to enliven Soweto’s social calendar, with the first series of this monthly event a humdinger of a memorable affair.

The colourful art, craft, and food market took place on Sunday, 27 January at the iconic Soweto Theatre.

The event gave Joburgers the opportunity to indulge in delicious food, good music, and mingle with likeminded people.

Seven Colour Sundays is Soweto’s first food market, happening every last Sunday of the month at the Soweto Theatre. It is punctuated by good music, an aroma of delicious food and great company.

Scheduled from 12 midday until 9pm, this past Sunday’s event featured homegrown talent, including an amazing line-up of Djs who rocked the dance floor. Local disc jockeys such as Dj Doda, Dj Schots, Dj Louis Da XVI, Dj Combars, and Dj Shezi lit the dance floor with entertaining and soulful music, much to the excitement of the crowd.

The day saw 13 of some of the best chefs and caterers from in and around Johannesburg selling a variety of delicious local gourmet food, township flavoured cuisine and tasty traditional ‘seven colour’ dishes and desserts. This monthly event is designed to promote local goods and services.

Revellers from across the city came out in droves to witness and participate in the spectacle. Reagan Jacobs from Eldorado Park said the event was “baie lekker”.

Event organiser and project manager Simphiwe Twala thanked all attendees for supporting the initiative. “Seven Colour Sundays is fast becoming one of Jozi’s favourite food markets.”
