If you walk around Snake Park and ask residents where Mzwandile Mtsiri Banda’s home is, most people will certainly take you to his doorstep.

Banda, who was unanimously declared man of the match, helped steer Snake Park Chillers Football Club to a hard-fought victory at the Tsalanang Winter Games finals on 28 July 2019 at the Braamfischerville Multipurpose Centre.

Snake Park Chillers Football Club walked away with a R100 000 cheque after beating Mambas XI Football Club 1-0.

Hosts and favourites Braamfischerville TMT were booted out earlier in the tournament. The first and second legs of the games took place during the June school holidays at Tsalanang Pub Grounds. This saw to 48 teams from as far as the Fee State, KwaZulu-Natal, Sedibeng, East Rand and West Rand slugging it out for glory in Braamfischerville. Young Letlhogonolo Ditsebe from Snake Park Chillers summed it all up when he said: “I am very happy. It was not easy. We worked hard. This tournament was very competitive.”

One of the local grannies said: “I have been here since this morning. I watched all the games and enjoyed myself. I like soccer. In my time, we used to go to the grounds to watch the players. I am happy that the games are coming back to the townships.”

Tournament organiser Solly Leshabane thanked the City of Joburg for keeping the youth totally engaged during the winter holidays.

“Since inception of the games, the City of Johannesburg Sport and Recreation department has been our key associate and we are proud of that,” said Leshabane.
