The City of Joburg’s Library and Information Services has unveiled a fun-filled and activity-packed holiday programme to keep children occupied and away from mishaps.

The programme, which caters for children aged between three and 17, runs from Monday, 18 March 2019, to 04 April 2019.

Parkview Library will kick off proceedings with an Easter egg hunt and an Easter craft activity to coincide with the closure of schools.

Out in Orlando East, Soweto, computer geeks will be in little heaven as they learn in a fun and interactive way how to code with the Microsoft programme: ‘Hour of coding’.

The next day, Blackheath Library will stage an Easter story time. Children will be encouraged to draw their interpretation of the story. Across town, Ivory Park Library will have a Water Wise team to talk about the dangers of water and also teach basic internet skills.

There will be fun and games at the Eldorado Park Ext 2 Library, featuring games like morabaraba, diketo, mugusha, skipping and hopscotch. The next day, children will use E-learning classroom laptops to design and colour Easter bunnies and Easter eggs at the same library.

“The City’s libraries will also deliver 30-minute puppet shows over the week of 18-22 March [excluding 21 March 2019 as it is a public holiday]. The target audience will be a mix of ages.

“The puppet shows are designed to encourage the use of libraries, endorse the importance of reading and learning; and stimulate eagerness to read,” said Alenor Duarte, Assistant Director: Library and Information Services in the City of Joburg.
