The City’s portfolio head of Finance, Funzela Ngobeni has established a performance management task team in an effort to fast track service delivery and improve performance.
Launched on Friday, 24 May 2019, the Service Delivery Unit (SDU) will be responsible for holding finance officials accountable for the delivery of projects.
It is also tasked with creating realistic budgets, plans and targets for service delivery, scrutinising the performance of critical units, ensuring rewards and consequences for performance and non-performance.
Its work within Group Finance is aligned to Outcome 5 of the City’s Growth and Development Strategy (GDS), which calls for an honest, transparent and responsive government that is service-delivery oriented.
The Service Delivery Unit is made up of a group of dedicated individuals who’ve been tasked with improving performance within Group Finance. It is a partnership between MMC Ngobeni’s office and the office of the Group Chief Financial Officer, Manenzhe Manenzhe.
“The SDU will put measures in place to monitor performance during our term of office so that we can be able to respond adequately and timeously to service delivery challenges. It will also ensure alignment in areas where there are core dependencies and maintain clean audits,” said MMC Ngobeni.
The SDU is premised on creating a culture of enhanced service delivery. It envisages administering a responsive department of finance that is customer friendly and enhances financial sustainability.
“The SDU has been entrusted with a full mandate to ensure the finance department delivers seamlessly on various projects outlined in the GDS and IDP – thus advancing Diphetogo (delivery-oriented change for residents),” Ngobeni said.
