It's all systems go for Joburg's most iconic cycling event, Discovery 947 Ride Joburg on Sunday, 17 November 2019, at Riversands Commercial Park.

Discovery 947 Ride Joburg, hosted by the City of Johannesburg in partnership with Discovery and 94.7 Highveld Stereo, will welcome thousands of cyclists to the streets of Joburg for the 23rd edition of the City's most well-known cycle challenge.

Last year's flipped route is back by popular demand. Cyclists will own the approximately 94.7km of thrilling Joburg terrain, while cycling freely and safely, enjoying full road closures along the route.

Discovery 947 Ride Joburg is the same adrenaline-pumping challenge, but with new and exciting changes in the mix. Still starting and finishing at Riversands Commercial Park, the race is now bigger and better with Discovery.

If the full route sounds a little daunting, don't worry, this year's edition will use the traditional 94.7km route but there is also a new feature, a 40km short ride. The introduction of a short ride means beginners can also test their fitness or skill levels.

This event forms part of Discovery's commitment to get 100 million people 20% more active by 2025, worldwide.

The short route will start at Melrose Arch at 09:30am and join the main route onto the M1 South, continuing along the remaining Discovery 947 Ride Joburg route through the Kyalami Grand prix Circuit, finishing at Riversands Commercial Park.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) will be on high alert during the thrilling Joburg's cycle challenge and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will line up on all road closures along the 94.7km route to ensure safety and well-being of cyclists and spectators.

The City of Johannesburg is proud to be a partner of the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg. The race speaks to the City's strides of making cycling a preferred mode of mobility in the City. The City would like to follow suit on the significant paradigm shift towards non-motorised transport.
