The last four hours at the Global Dance Supreme were hacked by loud music and dancers swinging their body parts.
All these happened at the Africa and Inter-Continental Championship in Joburg at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg, which was attended by young internationals from over 15 countries.
Observing from the floor, it was visible that the competition was intense. Dancers responded smoothly to the music with well-coordinated swings. Arms, legs and hips followed the same pattern as if the young stars were robots. The movements were flawless.

The energy released and seriousness that went with the preparations were so visible as their hands and legs and eyes were choreographed in a way that reflected lot of work spent getting everything right. Equally so, when the routine was changed, all looked flawless.
The dancers moved systematically like well-oiled machinery, movements were faultless and responded to intense music. The confidence displayed demonstrated hours and hours of hard work related to commitment. I set there wondering about the time spent on working with the young ones to get the movements correct.
Before the results were announced, some of the world’s best choreographers were called on stage to demonstrate few movements to screams and excitement. The atmosphere changed when judges took to the stage as tension could be felt as the hall went quiet, only to be erupted when winners were announced.
Lesego Kadiaka from the Happy Loving Friends in excitement said: “The process has been amazing. We had to put all the routines that were needed for us to win. At some point it was a wonderful and stressful but it all came together. The money we received is going to be invested on branding to take our name out there and opening other platforms in the art apart from dancing.”
The total prize money of R150 000 was split among the winners of various categories including solo and duo sections.
The winners were: Intellectual Pantsulas won R10 0000 (Afro styles Division); Ozone Shields won R7 000 (Junior Division); Destructive Crew won R15 000 (Legion-13 & Under); Jnr Precision Crew won R10 000 (Teen Division); Happy Loving Friends won R2 000 (Adult Division) and Empire Crew won R25 000 (Legion- Open Division), Empire Crew won R 25 000 (Open Division), The Homies won R15 000 (Duchess Division).
The Global Dance Supreme delivered for the second time a successful vibrant event. The passion and skills for dancing was amazing.
