Thousands of Joburg residents and visitors to the City descended on the Zoo Lake for annual Jazz on the Lake festival to usher spring yesterday, 1 September 2019.

They came adorned in tropical outfits to celebrate music and the start of spring with their families and friends.

The atmosphere was full of exuberance with the young and old dancing to the harmonies of Sjava (SA), Vusi Nova (SA), Ami Faku (SA), Tamy Moyo (Zimbabwe) and many more.

The past few years has seen Vusi Nova reach newer heights of his career. The double platinum sensation won Best Afro Pop Album, Best Afro Album and Best Male at the South African Afro Music Awards 2017.

The day would not have been complete without the Afro Pop sensation’s hit song As’phelelanga. Fans  screamed and beamed with joy when he took the stage, while some cried and sang along to every word. The event has grown from strength to the strength in the past two decades.

Among the crowd were Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development in the City of Joburg, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba and Corporate and Shared Services MMC Cllr Ntombi Khumalo.

“We are happy that residents came out in numbers to celebrate the beginning of spring,” said MMC Sifumba.

“Don’t forget that our swimming pools are open in all regions. They are ready and waiting for you and remember to adhere to the by-laws,” she concluded.

MMC Khumalo said: “We are happy to be in the midst of such a beautiful event celebrating and welcoming spring, a very joyous season, a season of renewal and celebrating our culture and heritage.”

A reveler from Orange Farm said: “It is such a wonderful experience to be out here enjoying with friends and families. This event gets better and better. I come all the way from the deep south and I never miss the concert every year. We are grateful to the City for hosting such a spectacular event each year.”
