The Joburg Theatre is staging a circus show with a melange of musical styles in a bid to celebrate the City’s youth, diversity and cultural heritage.

Journey Beyond, an artistic collaboration between non-profit organisations Zip Zap Circus and the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra will perform for the first time in Johannesburg between Friday, 20 and Sunday, 22 September.

The show features choreographed circus acts with orchestral masterpieces, amplified by Freshly-Ground band vocalist turned soloist Zolani Mahola and accomplished soprano, Zita Pretorius.

Co-founder and Artistic Director at Zip Zap, Brent van Rensburg, emphasises that the show is designed to celebrate the youth and the country’s diversity.

“This is an authentic celebration of our country’s talented youth and cultural diversity. These are ordinary kids accomplishing extraordinary feats. Witnessing this world-class talent on one stage will reinforce your pride in being a South African,” Van Rensburg explains.

He adds that Journey Beyond promise to amaze and delight the entire family.

The Zip Zap Circus School uses circus performing arts as a tool for social transformation, youth empowerment and community upliftment. The circus performs 65 shows nationally each year, and so far it has undertaken 30 world tours which gained local and international recognition. The school also impacts 2 000 youths each year through its free social programmes, which have been running for the past 27 years..

Established in 1976, the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra comprised of children playing strings, wind and percussion instruments.
