Experience acclaimed playwright and author, Zakes Mda’s Dead End on the Lesedi stage at the Joburg Theatre for a limited four nights only.

An exploration and portrayal of the life struggles of a young black South African couple navigating city life under Apartheid rule, Dead End is a metaphorical discussion about humanity and its revered deity.

Directed by Makhaola Ndebele, Joburg City Theatre’s Artistic Director, the theatrical production is performed by an exceptional cast comprising actor, playwright and director, Mncedisi Shabangu; theatre and performance lecturer, Sanelisiwe Yekani and renowned television and theatre actor, voice-over artist and vocalist, Khulu Skenjana.

The show allows South Africa’s young and old an opportunity to reflect on life, its present-day challenges and possibilities for a better future, Ndebele enthuses.

Dead End plays on the Lesedi stage inside the Joburg Theatre between Thursday, 20 and Sunday, 23 August 2020 from 7pm. Seats are limited to only 44 theatregoers per performance, subject to Covid-19 lockdown protocols.

However, Ndebele says the production will be filmed and later released digitally on an international platform for those who cannot travel to Johannesburg.

Tickets are priced at R75 per show, with a 10 percent discount for groups of 10 and more. Click here now to book your seat: https://www.joburgtheatre.com/dead-end-by-zakes-mda/.

Dead End is recorded historically as Mda’s first professional work as a young schoolboy. It was initially performed at Soweto’s Diepkloof Hall on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 1979 by Nomhle Nkonyeni, James Mthoba and Richard Ngamane
