Since the start of the national lockdown, the City has deployed countless resources to ensure that Covid-19 infections are minimised.
Below is a guide from Group Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) on what to do if you contract the novel coronavirus. If you have more questions, please contact your wellness/SHE practitioner:
How many City employees (core and entities) have been screened? – Just under 29 681 City employees (core and entities) have been screened as at 8 July 2020. This represents about 85% of employees in the City.
How many have been tested for Covid-19? – A total of 4 248 officials have been tested.
How many tested positive? – Currently, 660 City employees have tested positive for Covid-19.
How many deaths has the City experienced? (core and entities) – Unfortunately, four of our colleagues have died as a result of Covid-19 complications.
Are there more testing and screening sites or the status quo remains? – There are now 25 screening and testing sites that employees can access.
What must you do after testing positive?
- You inform your line manager
- You inform your direct/close contact and compile a list of people you came in contact with using a form called Annexure B
What must your immediate supervisor do?
- Provide support (arrange the necessary documents that need to be completed)
- Complete a reporting form called annexure A
- As soon as the document is completed, it must be forwarded to Group SHE: Attention Siphiwe Madiehe: Assistant Director Occupational Health
- Liaise with Environmental Health from the Health Department: Corrie Bezuidenhout 082 464 5372 so that he can arrange contact tracing
- The occupational health assistant director or OHS nurse will liaise with the affected employee to provide support and advise when the need arise
- If it's an occupational acquired Covid-19 and the affected employee needs medical attention, COID forms for reporting Occupational acquired Covid-19 must be completed
- WCL 1 (Employer's report ): To be completed by the line manager
- WCL110 (Exposure history): To be completed by the line manager
- COVID -19 questionnaire: To be completed by the line manager
- WCL 14: To completed by the affected employee
- WCL 22: To be completed by the treating doctor
- Please ensure that the ID copy, Covid-19 test results and payslip for the affected employee is also submitted
Can they disclose your positive results? What must your colleagues do?
- No one is allowed to disclose your Covid-19 status without your permission
- The line manager may inform your colleagues without disclosing the name of the affected individual
- Colleagues that are identified as close/direct contact will be advised to go for screening and testing
Will we ever win the war against the coronavirus?
- Yes, as long as everyone adheres to the precautionary measures; sanitises, wears personal protective equipment such as a mask and practices social distancing
- Scientists are working very hard to develop the vaccine and we need to remain positive.
