Joburg based fire protection consultant - Prana FM - has donated about 71 portable fire-extinguishers to the City’s Public Safety department, which will help smother flames in the likelihood that they occur in tents erected in the City's clinics during the lockdown.

The company describes itself as a specialist in the design, procurement, material fabrication, installation, inspection, training and commissioning of fire solutions.

Mally Mokoena, the MMC for Public Safety says the fire extinguishers will help the municipality comply with safety regulations in these tents during the lockdown. Mokoena took delivery of the donation on Wednesday, 20 May in Martindale, west of Johannesburg.

“I received fire extinguishers donated by Prana FM, which will be placed at 71 tents that have been erected in the City’s clinics as part of our adherence to safety regulations,” says the MMC.

Fire safety is paramount to the City and the municipality is responsible for preserving lives in case of the ignition or outbreak of a blaze in any of its facilities or communities. In terms of municipal bylaws, every building or structure must comply with fire safety regulations to be able to eliminate the hazard of a blaze without delay.

Mokoena says the City is grateful to Prana FM for the “generous donation,” which will help counter the adverse effects of a raging fire in any of the selected 71 clinics.

In addition, the municipality has made 21 clinics across all seven regions of Johannesburg available to intensify screening and testing for the Covid-19 pandemic. These sites are accessible to all residents of the City free-off charge.

The designated clinics assist the City to respond rapidly to suspected cases of infections in Johannesburg.
