Customers of the City of Johannesburg have started receiving their monthly municipal bills through SMSes during the Covid-19 lockdown as part of ensuring their safety and adherence to regulations of the Disaster Management Act.
Since the middle of April 2020, the City has been sending SMS notifications with an invoice to the cellphone numbers that appear on the municipality’s billing system.
The SMS contains a link to the actual statement, which can be viewed through a secured portal or sent via email as per customer preferences.
Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, Cllr Jolidee Mantogo says the municipality is making it safer, more comfortable and easier for customers to receive, pay and manage their Joburg accounts.
Should you feel the need to validate the SMS, please visit the E-Services portal on www.joburg.org.za or register on the same platform to receive your municipal statement/s via email. The following are the easy steps to follow to register online:
1 – Log onto the City’s website at www.joburg.org.za;
3 – You will be asked to provide some personal information and to choose a username and password;
4 – Once registered, you can log on with your username and password;
This is how you can pay your municipal bill:
• Internet payments: Most major banks have the City of Johannesburg already pre-loaded as a beneficiary. Your nine (9) digit municipal account number must be used as your unique customer reference number.
• Easy Pay: Pay at any retail outlet, provided it is an Easy Pay facility: Pick n Pay, Shoprite Checkers, Spar and any Easy Pay points, as well as other accredited vendor points. Remember to retain your slip as proof of payment. Use your previous month’s bill as reference. Pay before the due date to allow for timeous processing of the transaction. Payments will appear after three business days on the City’s billing system.
Send a direct email to
joburgconnect@joburg.org.za should you have a query on your account. Please note that the query will only be attended to once the resolution team is back in the office after the lockdown. Customers who did not receive their municipal statements are urged to continue paying the average monthly consumption rate in order to keep their accounts up to date.
