The Group Governance: Ethics Office is committed to help build an ethical culture in the City through learning and development.
That is why it is rolling out compulsory online training for City employees through the National School of Government (NSG) eLearning website.

The purpose of the online course is to promote ethical behaviour in local government, prevent unethical conduct, including fraud and corruption, and support ethics and integrity management.
The Constitution requires a high standard of professional ethics in the public sector. This means public administration must be governed by democratic values, principles and standards for professional ethics as enshrined in the Constitution.
Challenges arise when public officials experience ethical dilemmas. Ethical conduct and organisational integrity are key to eradicate fraud and corruption in the public service. It is imperative to implement a programme that will equip public officials with the skills and competencies to make ethical decisions, to develop organisational integrity, prevent fraud and combat corruption in the public sector.
Participants will be able to:
• Reflect on their own values
• Recognise common areas of ethical dilemmas for public service employees
• Apply the core ethical values and standards contained in prescripts that have relevance for the conduct of employees in the public service
• Uphold and promote professional ethics in the workplace
The course is offered free of charge and is delivered online. Participants can work at their own pace and will receive a certificate after concluding the module. The course takes about eight to 10 hours to complete and can be completed over two to four weeks.
You can register by logging onto the NSG website (https://www.thensg.gov.za/). Click on “Open eLearning courses” under the eLearning tab and follow the on-screen instructions to register a profile.
