The MMC for Housing, Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso has vowed to improve service delivery in Kliptown, following a consultation with community leaders.
Cllr Mabaso visited the community of Kliptown recently and was accompanied by officials from the Housing Department. This comes after the MMC received several service delivery complaints from local leaders.
“I have directed Housing officials and service providers to fast track service delivery in the form of the electrification of units as well as implementing turnkey developments to meet residents’ needs,” says the MMC.
Cllr Mabaso laments that residents of Kliptown have been neglected over the past few years.
“It is for this reason that I have vowed to bring services to the community of Kliptown. We want to assure our residents that the Government of Local Unity is determined to ensure that service delivery is brought to our people,” he emphasises.
Cllr Mabaso says service delivery protests paint a bad picture of the City, that the municipality is incapable of executing its duties.
“We have been elected to these positions that we occupy by our voters and for us, is to ensure that we provide them with services as guaranteed in the Constitution,” he notes.
Cllr Mabaso has moved to reassure residents of Kliptown and other areas within Johannesburg that the Government of Local Unity will continue to foster relations between communities by providing quality services.
“It must be noted that although residents have immediate demands for service delivery, there are processes that must be followed. We, therefore, call on Kliptown residents to be patient with the City as we move towards bringing temporary and permanent services into the community,” says the MMC.
