The City of Joburg is excited to be part of the Heritage Day Virtual Run.

“The fact that the FNB RYCS race is still going head on Heritage Day is really special," says Cllr Margaret Arnolds, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development City of Joburg.

“Joburg communities are excited to be active again, celebrate life and commemorate Heritage in such a special way.  The virtual race brings a different dimension to the event.  Congratulations to the organisers and FNB for staging this iconic event not only in Joburg but also in Durban and Cape Town. Although it's been hit hard by the pandemic, not only economically, but also in its deepest core, the City of Gold is known to bounce back quickly," continues Cllr Arnolds.

“There are already visible signs of this. Our citizens embrace events of this nature, as it has been proven that sport creates excitement and social connectivity which is now crucial to re-build the City.   The Virtual Race is guaranteed to have a positive impact. It will (and has already) create excitement and give individuals new purpose as it sets the tone for the summer season and the 'post COVID' era!"

A total of 15 000 runners will participate in the FNB Run Your City Series (RYCS) Heritage Day Virtual Run on Thursday 24 September 2020 (National Heritage Day).

“We are thankful to each and every runner that has entered the Virtual Run," says Dezroy Poole, Director of Stillwater Sports.

“The event would not be possible without your support. We are also extremely thankful for those runners who made a donation towards our official charities when entering.  Our charities have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and they truly do appreciate any form of support."

“Our team has had a great time preparing for the Virtual Run," continues Poole.  “This year we are excited to also be able to 'Run Our City' on National Heritage Day.  We would like to plead with all runners to please remember to adhere to all legal government regulations for exercise on race day.  Let's celebrate Heritage Day together virtually and responsibly."

Event Date:  Thursday 24 September 2020 / National Heritage Day

Time:  Start – 06:30 / Cut Off – 12:00
