The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Mpho Phalatse, accompanied by Members of the Mayoral Committee, conducted a three-day Golden Connection Tour of Region B. The aim of the tour is to bring the executive closer to the residents and to interact with various stakeholders. It is also an opportunity for the City to gather information on community concerns and provide details of the services it offers.
“The Multi-Party Government realises the importance of having regions around the decision-making table as you fully understand the communities you serve,” said Mayor Phalatse.
The Region B tour took place on 29 November, 6 December and 7 December 2022. On the first day of the tour, the City’s political leadership focused on addressing issues experienced by municipal employees and ensuring that they are motivated to do their job.
On 6 December, the tour continued in Windsor East and focused on inspecting City facilities and ensuring they are up to standard for services delivery in Ward 98 in Fairlands’ Jerusalem.
Joburg Property Company properties were inspected and Environmental Health inspectors carried out food and safety inspections in various shops in Windsor East.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment and Infrastructure Services Cllr Michael Sun and the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development Cllr Nkuli Mbundu engaged local business owners on complying with health and safety measures to avoid getting fined.
The tour proceeded to Danie Van Zyl ward 82 to a garden site. Gladness Boikanyo from Urban Agriculture Management said: “Seven farmers and their families plant their crops in the garden and sell them to residents.”
Mayor Phalatse told the farmers: “There’s an opportunity centre to register farmers to access more opportunities and form cooperatives.
The private sector’s help is needed to assist farmers with issues around farming.”
The tour landed in Rosebank on 7 December, where Mayor Phalatse and her MMCs engaged the Rosebank business forum and informed Rosebank stakeholders about some of the plans the City has for the area.
The Rosebank community also got the opportunity to highlight the challenges and milestones achieved by the City.
The Region B Golden Connection Tour ended in Slovo Park with an A Re Sebetseng activation. Residents told Mayor Phalatse and her team about the challenges they face on a daily basis
