President Cyril Ramaphosa today, 14 November 2025, is participating in the CEOs–City Clean-up Campaign in Kliptown, joining the Executive Mayor, Cllr Dada Morero, and over 70 CEOs from Johannesburg's private sector.
This high-profile activation reinforces the City's commitment to urban renewal and strengthened collaboration with business to build a cleaner, safer, and more competitive Johannesburg.
The CEOs–City Clean-up Campaign is a bold, collaborative initiative, officially launched earlier this week by Mayor Morero. It unites City entities, business leaders, and community stakeholders for joint action aimed at restoring dignity, order, and pride across Johannesburg.
Mayor Morero emphasised that the partnership is designed to drive visible, sustainable progress on the ground. “The launch of the CEOs-City Clean-up Campaign marks a formidable and transformative journey for our City," he stated. “This initiative embodies our unyielding commitment to restoring dignity, order, and pride across every neighbourhood."
Acknowledging the significant challenges faced by the City, including crumbling infrastructure, urban decay, and disorder, the Mayor stressed that these issues “cannot be solved by government alone". The campaign serves as a clarion call for shared accountability and collective action from all who live, work, and invest in Johannesburg.
The participation of President Ramaphosa and the city's top business leaders in Kliptown underscores this renewed commitment. This effort is more than a one-day clean-up; it is a long-term commitment to improving service delivery, supporting long-term investment, and reclaiming Johannesburg's position as the economic and cultural heartbeat of South Africa. The practical implementation of clean-up interventions is led by the Johannesburg Bomb Squad, ensuring sustainability through strategic partnerships.
Mayor Morero concluded: “Together, we are re-establishing a foundation of cooperation that will unlock a cleaner, more resilient, and globally competitive Johannesburg."
