Big vibes, big love and the Big 5 — this Mothers' Day, the City of Joburg is pulling out all the stops at the iconic 122-year-old Johannesburg Zoo. On Sunday, 10 May 2026, the Zoo transforms into a vibrant celebration space, hosting 10 top artists for a one-of-a-kind live music experience set among more than 300 animal species. It's more than a concert — it's a proudly Joburg celebration of music, nature and family.
A line-up as diverse as Joburg
This year's programme offers something for everyone, blending genres and generations in true Jozi style. Audiences can look forward to performances by Ami Faku, The Soil, Matthew Mole, LaSauce, Chubby Cheeks, Bongi Archi, Phoebe Mxgagi and Giselle Niemand, alongside Richard Cock and the Phoenix Orchestra. From soulful ballads to upbeat pop and orchestral brilliance, the line-up reflects the rich cultural mix of the city.
A concert experience like no other
Set within one of the few urban zoos in the world offering a Big 5 experience, the Johannesburg Zoo provides a truly unique backdrop. Visitors can enjoy live performances while soaking in nature — a rare combination in a bustling city.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to make the most of the day. Attractions include wildlife viewing, the popular Animals of the Amazon exhibit with its walk-through aquarium, and guided heritage tours running between 09:15 and 12:00. Shaded picnic spots under the Zoo's leafy canopy offer the perfect place to relax with family and friends.
An Adopt-an-Animal stand will also be available, giving visitors a meaningful Mother's Day gift option, complete with certificates, animal information and Zoo entry vouchers.
Supporting local and celebrating community
A lively SMME market will showcase local crafts and products, offering visitors the chance to support small businesses while picking up unique gifts.
Tickets are affordably priced at R150 for adults and R80 for children (3–12) and pensioners, available via Webtickets and at the gate.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo invites residents to come together for a memorable day celebrating mothers, community and the natural beauty of the city.
