South African golfing star Casandra Alexander has added another prestigious title to her growing international career, winning the KPMG Women's Irish Open at The K Club in Ireland on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The 27-year-old produced a composed performance under immense pressure to finish on 20-under-par 268, three strokes clear of Czech Republic's Sara Kouskova. Alexander overcame a difficult start, which saw her bogey her opening two holes, by responding with three consecutive birdies from the fifth hole to regain control and secure her second Ladies European Tour title.
Her victory caps a remarkable 2026 season in which she had already recorded five runner-up finishes and established herself as a leading contender for the LET Order of Merit.
Alexander's latest achievement also carries special significance for Johannesburg. She won the Joburg Ladies Open at Soweto Country Club in 2021, a breakthrough victory that helped launch her international journey. She returned to the Joburg Ladies Open in April 2026 at Randpark Golf Club, where she narrowly missed out after reaching a three-way playoff.
Congratulating Alexander on her remarkable achievement, MMC for Community Development, Councillor Thapelo Amad praised the golfer for continuing to fly the Johannesburg flag high on the international stage.
“On behalf of the City of Johannesburg, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Casandra Alexander on this outstanding victory. Casandra continues to make Johannesburg and South Africa proud by flying our flag high on the international golfing stage."
MMC Amad said Alexander's success was an inspiration to young golfers in Johannesburg and demonstrated the important role that sporting platforms such as the Joburg Ladies Open play in developing and showcasing local talent.
Alexander described the victory as particularly special after a season of coming close to winning. “I'm really, really pumped. This one's really special. One, it's a special event. Two, I almost feel as if the second win is just as important as the first one and it proves it's not a fluke."
With the LET season still underway, Alexander now turns her attention to securing the Order of Merit, saying: “The Order of Merit is goal number one and the best way to win the Order of Merit is to win golf tournaments."
From Soweto to Randpark and now The K Club, Alexander's journey reflects resilience, determination and belief and once again places Johannesburg and South African women's golf firmly in the international spotlight.
