Soweto residents in the City of Johannesburg were elated as they received their share of homes in Jabulani at Parcel K today, 28 October 2026. In attendance were Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, alongside MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara, MMC for Human Settlements Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso and MMC Eunice Mgcina, who served as acting Johannesburg Mayor for the event.
During the handover, MMC Mabaso urged beneficiaries not to rent out or sell their newly allocated houses.

“We have already received reports that some beneficiaries who received houses in allocations made three months ago are now renting them out. We have also received reports of others advertising the houses for sale on Facebook for R150 000."
The handover was an emotional moment for beneficiaries, with some expressing gratitude and excitement at finally receiving their homes.
Cynthia Sokutu (91) could hardly contain her joy as she celebrated being among those receiving houses. “Yoh, yoh, hallelujah! I'm so grateful to be one of the beneficiaries receiving a new house."
Another beneficiary, Amshlay Grootboom, described receiving the house as an electrifying and honourable moment. “The honour of getting this house electrifies me and thank you for this blessing."
Jabulani Manyoni also expressed happiness, particularly because his mother had finally received a house. “I'm happy that my mother's house finally came."
The milestone marks another step in government's efforts to provide qualifying residents with adequate housing, promote homeownership and restore dignity to families.
