The City of Johannesburg, acting as the visionary enabler of the International Netball Test Series, has once again thrown its weight behind the sport of netball. While the world's eyes were fixed on the women's rankings, a historic “curtain-raiser" proved to be a showstopper.
Olebogeng Mojelo, a young fan from Bertrams, was thrilled by the action: “The game was exciting, and the ball moved so fast! Our SA boys could have done better, but Australia was just too strong."
The Australian Kelpies—the world's most dominant force in men's netball—stepped onto the court to a roar of recognition. For many of these athletes, the journey to Jozi was the culmination of years of advocacy for the men's game.
Opposite them stood the South African Men's National Team. They weren't just there to make up the numbers; they were there to defend their home soil in a fierce yet friendly Pre-Match Challenge. This fixture, championed by the City of Joburg, was designed to elevate the visibility of male netballers on the global stage.
The Australians were relentless. Their disciplined one-on-one defence was suffocating, making every SA pass a struggle. The South Africans countered with explosive speed and an aerial game that defied gravity, but they ultimately couldn't match the clinical execution of the visitors.
As the final whistle echoed, the scoreline felt secondary to the significance of the moment. The Kelpies and the South African men embraced at centre court—a display of mutual respect made possible by a city that truly believes "Netball is for Everyone."
By hosting the Kelpies, the City didn't just showcase international talent; it inspired every young boy in the stands to envision a professional future on the court. Johannesburg has once again proven its pride in hosting world-class events, turning a standard test series into a powerful global statement.
