​The City of Johannesburg's Department of Human Settlem​ents recently hosted representatives from the Gauteng Office of th​e Premier, the national and Gauteng Departments of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), and a delegation from Eastern Cape COGTA at the South Hills Integrated Development. The visit formed part of a benchmarking study coordinated by the Gauteng Premier's Office to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and the exchange of innovative approaches across government spheres and provinces.

The engagement provided an opportunity for participants to share best practices and practical lessons on the District Development Model, intergovernmental relations, governance, service delivery innovation and effective project implementation.

South Hills Integrated Development was showcased as an example of integrated human settlements planning, bringing together housing, social amenities and economic opportunities within a sustainable urban development framework. The development reflects the City's commitment to creating inclusive, connected communities that improve residents' quality of life.
The visit highlighted how collaboration and innovation can strengthen government's ability to respond to community needs, improve service delivery and achieve better developmental outcomes. By learning from one another and sharing practical solutions, government institutions can build stronger capacity and deliver more effective projects.

MMC for Human Settlements, Councillor Mlungisi Mabaso, welcomed the opportunity to strengthen intergovernmental partnerships.

“The challenges facing our communities require innovative solutions and strong partnerships across all spheres of government. Benchmarking visits such as these allow us to learn from one another, share successful approaches and strengthen our collective ability to deliver sustainable human settlements and quality services to our residents. Together, we can drive meaningful developmental impact and improve the lives of our people."

The City remains committed to collaborative governance initiatives that promote innovation, strengthen institutional capacity and support national and provincial development priorities.
