The Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Johannesburg TVET College (CJC) to expand work-integrated learning opportunities for students and help prepare them for the workplace. Signed at the college's head office in Parktown, the agreement will provide eligible students with practical workplace experience to complement their studies and improve their employability.
The partnership fulfils JOSHCO's commitment at the Youth in Construction Summit to support skills development and create meaningful opportunities for young people.
“Youth unemployment remains one of South Africa's greatest socio-economic challenges, and partnerships such as this are critical in changing that reality. Every young person deserves an opportunity to gain experience, develop their skills and realise their potential," said JOSHCO acting Chief Executive Officer Katlego Ditshego.

“By creating opportunities for experiential learning, we are investing in their future and contributing to the development of a skilled, work-ready generation that will help build our city and our country," Ditshego added.
Through the partnership, students enrolled in relevant occupational programmes will be placed within JOSHCO's operational environment to complete the practical components of their qualifications. They will receive workplace induction, mentorship, supervision and ongoing support to develop industry-relevant skills and professional competencies.
CJC will coordinate student placements, prepare students for workplace learning and monitor their progress, while JOSHCO will provide practical training opportunities and professional guidance. CJC Chairperson Mokhobu Phasoane said the collaboration demonstrated the value of partnerships between educational institutions and employers in addressing youth unemployment.
“By creating pathways from education to employment, JOSHCO and Central Johannesburg TVET College are not only investing in students but also helping to shape a more inclusive and prosperous future for all," Phasoane said.
The agreement aims to bridge the gap between education and employment by giving students the workplace experience often required to secure their first jobs. As an organisation committed to building sustainable communities, JOSHCO recognises youth development as an important investment in socio-economic growth. The partnership will help develop a pipeline of skilled, work-ready young people equipped to contribute to the economy and build sustainable careers.
