Emmarentia Dam was a sea of pink on Sunday, 16 August 2026, as thousands of women braved a chilly Highveld morning to take part in the 2026 Totalsports Women's Race. The nationwide 5km and 10km road race is a highlight of Women's Month, bringing together more than 28 000 participants across Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The event attracts elite athletes, recreational runners and walkers of all ages, creating a festive atmosphere centred on fitness, friendship and women's empowerment.

Charity remains a key focus of the event. The Totalsports Women's Race has long supported PinkDrive, a non-profit company dedicated to breast cancer awareness, education, and free screening services across South Africa.

Top runner Glenrose Xaba won the 10km race with a commanding time of 32:11 minutes. Brenda Kenei from Kenya came second and Casisile Sosibo finished in third place. For most participants the race is seen as a good opportunity to socialize and forms part of a healthy lifestyle.

“Emmarentia is a very family friendly environment. Today is a great day to get some fresh air and some much-needed steps," in said Karin Morgans, a recreational athlete. The event once again highlighted Johannesburg's appeal as a premier destination for major road-running events. The City has already hosted the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge this year and is set to welcome the Spar Women's Challenge and Soweto Marathon later in the year.

With its scenic routes, enthusiastic running community and growing reputation as a sporting destination, Joburg continues to put its best foot forward.
