Malandelela FC were crowned champions of the African Pride Games 2026 in Rabie Ridge on Sunday, 25 October, after edging out Amatenten FC 3–2 in a thrilling soccer final. The games celebrated inclusion, diversity and sporting excellence, with the City of Johannesburg reaffirming its commitment to accessible public infrastructure and community sport. Organised in partnership with the Phuthi Lekoloane Foundation, the City of Johannesburg and other stakeholders, it brought together teams across different sporting codes, using sport as a platform to promote inclusion, diversity, social cohesion and community participation.
City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development Cllr Thapelo Amad highlighted the importance of making the City's amenities and infrastructure accessible to residents.
“Sport has the power to unite people across different backgrounds, cultures and communities. The African Pride Games demonstrate how inclusion and diversity can be promoted through sport, while creating opportunities for residents to participate, showcase their talents and build lasting relationships.
“The City remains committed to promoting the accessibility of its infrastructure and amenities so that residents can use these facilities for recreation, sporting development and community engagement," said Amad.
He welcomed the longstanding partnership that contributed to the tournament's growth and success over the years.
“We appreciate the partnership with the foundation and all stakeholders who continue to make the African Pride Games possible. These collaborations demonstrate what can be achieved when government, community organisations and other partners work together towards a common goal."
Beyond the excitement of the soccer final, the 2026 edition also celebrated achievements in netball, showcasing the breadth of sporting talent and the importance of providing platforms for athletes across different disciplines.
In the men's netball division, Diversity claimed the title, while Johannesburg Central Netball Club emerged victorious in the women's division.
Individual excellence was also recognised, with outstanding players and top-performing coaches receiving awards for their contributions to the tournament and their respective teams.
The African Pride Games continue to demonstrate the role of community sport in bringing people together, challenging barriers to participation and creating a shared sense of belonging among residents.
For the City of Johannesburg, the tournament reinforces the value of partnerships in creating inclusive sporting opportunities and ensuring that public amenities remain accessible spaces where residents can connect, develop their talents and celebrate their diversity.
