The City of Johannesburg welcomes the return of the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train, popularly known as the “Train of Hope", to Johannesburg. The Phelophepa Healthcare Train travels to communities across South Africa, bringing essential healthcare services closer to people, particularly those in rural and underserved areas.
The train is currently stationed at Dube Station in Soweto, where it will provide services to residents until 21 August 2026.
The state-of-the-art mobile healthcare facility offers a range of primary healthcare services, including eye care, dental care and general health screenings for conditions such as diabetes and cancer. Counselling services are also available and provided by qualified professionals.

The train has a registered pharmacy that dispenses medication up to Schedule 4. While most services are provided free of charge, some services, including prescription glasses and medication, cost between R5 and R30. Patients are attended to on a first-come, first-served basis, from 07:30 to 16:00 daily.
“I encourage the community of Soweto and surrounding areas to take advantage of the clinic-on-wheels to access healthcare services at their doorsteps," said Cllr Phindile Simelane of Ward 38 in Dube, Soweto.
