From energetic dance moves to high kicks and rhythmic routines, Rabie Ridge Stadium in Region A came alive on Saturday, 24 October 2026, as residents gathered for an aerobics session aimed at promoting physical fitness, healthy living and community participation. The session brought together residents of different ages and fitness levels, united by a shared commitment to improving their health and wellbeing.
With upbeat music, enthusiastic participation and guidance from fitness instructor Samuel Fatule, the aerobics class offered an enjoyable way for community members to get active while connecting.
The initiative forms part of the City of Johannesburg's ongoing efforts to encourage residents to embrace healthier lifestyles through accessible sport and recreation programmes.
Mandla Mahlangu, Deputy Director of Sport and Recreation in the City of Johannesburg, highlighted the importance of taking fitness activities directly to communities, creating opportunities for residents to participate in physical exercise and make positive lifestyle choices.

“Regular physical activity plays an important role in improving overall health and wellbeing. The City encourages residents to become more active, adopt healthier habits and make use of community-based recreational opportunities. It is never too late to start taking care of your health," said Mahlangu.
For young resident Lerato Molungoa from Mayibuye, the session was an opportunity to prioritise personal wellbeing while enjoying the energy and camaraderie of exercising with fellow community members.
“Exercising here makes me feel safer because we come together as a group in one place, unlike when I have to run alone on the streets. With the recent women killings in Kempton Park, it is difficult not to feel anxious when running alone, as you constantly find yourself looking over your shoulder. Being part of a group allows me to focus on my fitness without feeling as vulnerable," said Molungoa.
The City continues to encourage residents to take advantage of local sport and recreation programmes, emphasising that regular exercise does not require expensive gym memberships or specialised equipment. Simple activities such as walking, dancing and aerobics can contribute significantly to improved physical and mental wellbeing.
