The City of Johannesburg is still implementing water restrictions despite reports that water levels at the Vaal Dam have increased by 3.5% to 47.58% on Friday, 20 December 2019.

This is according to the new Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment, Infrastructure Services Cllr Mpho Moerane, who urges residents to continue to use water sparingly.

“Estimates are that the dam levels might rise up to 50%, but the Vaal Dam was sitting at a much higher level same time last year.

“We continue to strongly urge the City of Joburg residents to use water sparingly. Please do not water gardens or wash cars using hose pipes. Every drop counts," says MMC Moerane.

The City of Johannesburg has been implementing level one water restrictions, which means that residents are not allowed to water their gardens between 6am and 6pm in Summer months. Residents are also not allowed to wash paved areas and driveways using hosepipes.
