The City has identified clear opportunities for major beneficiation projects. An example of this is the Jewel City precinct in the Central Business District, known as the diamond hub. The precinct consists of four city blocks, containing the workshops and offices of around 280 diamond dealers and manufacturers. Diamonds are received and processed from Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Botswana. Jewel City already attracts some 400 visitors a day, with about ZAR 7-billion changing hands every year.
