National, provincial and local government have initiatives developd to enhance skills development. To increase the number of technically skilled workers, the City launched a Skills Hub initiative in 2008. This initiative maps target markets and matches candidates with appropriate market opportunities. Investment protection To encourage investment, the SA government continues to pass legislation geared to a smooth and cost effective set up for foreign investors. This is reflected in SA achieving 10th position globally (183 economies ranked) regarding protecting investors in The World Bank and IFC Ease of Doing Business 2010 Report. Overall, SA achieved a ranking of 34 (183 economies rated) in Doing Business 2010 Report, the second highest in Africa, after Mauritius, and well ahead of the BRIC economies (China 89, Russian Federation 120, Brazil 129 and India 133). Intellectual Property Law SA has a developed system of intellectual property law covering patents, industrial designs, copyright and trademarks.
