The City of Johannesburg's Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) Region F continues to strengthen service delivery by bringing essential municipal services directly to residents through community outreach initiatives.
On Wednesday, 8 July 2026, CRUM Region F hosted a successful Open Day at The Glen Shopping Centre in Oakdene, providing residents with convenient access to a wide range of municipal and government services in one location. The family-friendly event formed part of the City's ongoing commitment to improving customer service, resolving municipal queries efficiently, and making government services more accessible to communities.
The Open Day brought together various City departments, municipal entities, provincial government departments and strategic partners to provide integrated services to residents. Participating stakeholders included Group Finance (Revenue), Region F Health (Glenanda Clinic), City Power, COJ Social Development, Human Settlements, the Gauteng Department of Social Development, Office of the Ombudsman, Emergency Management Services (EMS), the South African Social Security Agency and the Independent Electoral Commission.
Residents accessed a range of services, including assistance with municipal account and billing enquiries, health screenings, social services support and referrals, information on energy-saving initiatives and electricity tariffs, grant-related enquiries, voter registration and updates, as well as other municipal services.
A key focus of the Open Day was creating awareness of the City's Debt Relief Programme, which assists qualifying customers in bringing their municipal accounts up to date through structured payment arrangements, including relief on interest and penalties. Residents also received assistance with applications for pensioner rebates and registration for the Expanded Social Package (ESP), which provides additional support to qualifying low-income households.
The initiative was well received by residents, many of whom welcomed the opportunity to resolve longstanding municipal issues without having to visit multiple service centres.
Ward 55 resident Riad Phillips praised the initiative, saying: “Attending the Open Day was a total blessing in disguise. An issue I had been struggling to resolve for five years was finally resolved. I am grateful to the City for bringing these essential services into our community."
Ward 56 Councillor Michael Crichton also welcomed the initiative, highlighting the positive impact it had on residents.
“I thank the City for bringing this Open Day to The Glen. It is encouraging to see so many residents taking advantage of the services on offer, particularly at the Revenue stand, which has been exceptionally busy assisting customers with billing-related enquiries.
“I encouraged residents in my ward to attend because billing issues are among the most common concerns raised by the community. It is rewarding to see residents receiving the assistance they need, especially with applications for pensioner rebates and the Debt Relief Programme. Initiatives such as these make municipal services more accessible and demonstrate the City's commitment to serving its communities," Cllr Crichton said.
