The City of Joburg Council tabled draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Medium-Term Budget, and draft tariffs during a Council meeting held at the Conny Bapela Council Chambers in Braamfontein on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

The tabling of the draft IDP signals the start of a broad public participation process designed to ensure that residents' voices play a central role in shaping the city's development agenda.

The DP is a five-year city's principal strategic planning instrument, guiding service delivery, infrastructure development, and budget priorities over the medium term. It is a legislative requirement in terms of the Municipal Systems Act and is reviewed annually to respond to the evolving needs and aspirations of communities.

As part of this process, the city will roll-out a series of public consultation sessions across all its seven regions, including targeted stakeholder engagements and online platforms. These sessions will provide residents, businesses, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders with an opportunity to engage directly with the city, provide input, and influence planning and budgeting priorities.

The public participation programme builds on the Community-Based Planning process, through which communities have already contributed to identifying key service delivery priorities for the 2026/27 financial year.

Members of the public are encouraged to access the draft IDP document and submit their comments. The document is available on the City's official website and at all regional offices. Inputs can be submitted online or delivered directly to regional offices.

The City reaffirms its commitment to transparent, inclusive, and responsive governance by ensuring that residents play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the City of Johannesburg. Further details on consultation dates, venues, and participation platforms will be communicated.

Residents are urged to participate actively in this process and make their voices heard.
