The City of Johannesburg Health Department officially launched its eHealth System on 9 October 2026 at Claremont Clinic in Region B, marking a step towards using digital technology to support healthcare service delivery. The system is designed to improve how patient information is captured, stored, and accessed by authorised healthcare workers. It brings key healthcare processes together in an electronic record, helping to reduce reliance on paper files and support better coordination of patient information.

As the technology enabler, the Metropolitan Tech Company (MTC) is supporting the initiative through the provision of the Enterprise Electronic Health Records Solution, an eLearning platform, and staff training. MTC's role is to provide the technology and training support required by the Health Department as it advances its digital healthcare programme.

MTC Project Manager Richard Lalla said that “Technology plays an important role in supporting the City's service delivery objectives. Through our role in enabling the eHealth System, MTC is supporting the Health Department in its efforts to improve the management of patient information through digital solutions."

In addition, Dr Gadirobe Mothibi, City of Johannesburg Health Department Executive Director, said, “The eHealth System is an important step in our efforts to modernise healthcare services and improve patient information management. We remain focused on using technology to support more efficient healthcare processes and quality service delivery for the residents of Johannesburg."

The launch highlights the collaboration between MTC and the Health Department in using digital technology to support the delivery of healthcare services to communities across the city.
