Kwa-Thabeng
Those who visit Kwa-Thabeng at night will be impressed with its laid-back atmosphere. There is outdoor seating, under a thatched roof. Indoors, this pub-restaurant has two rooms, and patrons can choose to frequent either. Both are complete with televisions, with the volume down, to allow African tunes to be played.
The kitchen is run by women, who concoct the most delectable African and Western dishes. You can taste the flavours of home in the beef, chicken and mutton stews; butternut; morogo (creamed wild spinach); deep fried fish; or pork spare ribs. Side salads are coleslaw, Greek or potato. The average price for two courses is R45.
Breakfasts are also available, including bacon and eggs, tramezzini and toasted sandwiches. Buffets can be booked in advance. Specials can be a treat too, with mopani worms making an occasional appearance on the menu. As for the waiting staff, competent is the best description.
