Masakeng
LOCALS flock to this charming pub, particularly sports-loving men. The main attraction for them is the massive flat-screen television, which keeps them happy. The atmosphere during major sporting events is electrifying and worth making time for.
On days when no sporting events are televised, Masakeng exudes African culture and reflects the greater Sowetan community. And don't let the pub label put you off the food – there is a variety of traditional African dishes to quell your hunger pangs.
Tripe, creamed spinach and samp and beans feature on the lunch menu. The chicken stew and rice deserves a special mention. The pub menu includes sticky, sweet pork spare ribs, fish and chips and a meat platter, which can be savoured with an ice-cold beer.
Customers can book in advance for buffets, and can choose what they want to include in it. Prices range from R25 for meals to R70 for buffets.
