|  SAKHUMZI'S is in a prime position to attract the tourist trade - it is next door to Archbishop Desmond Tutu's old house and just down the road from Nelson Mandela's former residence, which has been turned into a museum.
Owner Sakhumzi Maqubela thought it a good idea to take advantage of the several tourists who visited Soweto every day, and so opened up a restaurant.
The best way to enjoy a meal is to sit at the tables set on the restaurant's front lawn, even though there is indoor seating. The seating arrangement makes for an intimate setting and helps people get to know each other that much better. Lunching at Sakhumzi's can be a relaxed experience.
The service is attentive yet casual, with the waitresses not too much in your face. Children performing traditional dances outside provide the entertainment while two television sets inside satisfy the needs of those wanting to catch up with the current soccer match. Its many windows allow the natural light to brighten the interior, giving it a radiant look.
Sakhumzi's also caters for corporate team-building groups.
The food ranges from typical Sowetan cuisine to a Greek salad. For R75 per person for the buffet, there is umnqusho (samp and beans), grilled chicken, pap and chakalaka, ithanga (mashed butternut) and ulusu (tripe).
Diners can seal the meal with custard and jelly, fruit salad or ice cream.
