This afternoon, I joined our team as part of operation O Kae Molao which seized counterfeit goods to the value of R15-million in Small Street, Johannesburg CBD.
13 undocumented persons were also arrested during the operation. Four properties which had illegally connected power supply were disconnected by officials from City Power.
The counterfeit goods include footwear, clothes and watches of well-known brands such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Tom Ford and Gucci were confiscated.
The operation was conducted in conjunction with the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Services Department, the South African Police Service (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
We must bring back the rule of law in our City and take it back from the criminal elements.
We are committed to ensuring that we stop the rot in our inner city and make it a prosperous and inclusive place for our people to live work and play.
I would like to encourage people to report any fraud and corruption activities through our 24-hour tip-off hotline 0800 002 587 or visit the offices of GFIS situated at 48 Ameshoff Street, Braamfontein.
