Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) will be amongst many other zoos and organisations that will be celebrating World Elephant Day (WED) on Monday 12 August 2019.

JCPZ will also take the opportunity to fuss and pamper Lammie the elephant who turns 40 on the eve of WED and also officially welcome Mopani and Ramadiba, two new elephants.

All visitors will have free access to the zoo for the day. JCPZ is encouraging residents, photographers, artists and the media to come join the celebrations in experiencing elephants in a sustainable and protected environment. School groups especially from Diepsloot, Orange Farm, Alexandra and Cosmo City are encouraged to attend but must pre-arrange their visit with Nathi.Mvula@jhbzoo.org.za by Wednesday 7 August 2019.

The day will include talks and exhibitions on environmental education and the medical, nourishment and enrichment programmes that the zoo provides for its elephants in line with stringent legislated practices.

World Elephant Day is an international annual event on August 12, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world's elephants. It is supported by over 65 wildlife organizations and many individuals in countries across the globe.
