The City had been experiencing delays in receiving and issuing driving license cards to the customers applied for at Joburg’s Licensing Centres.
It has been reported that the Department of Transport’s Driving License Card Account (DLCA) still has to process a major backlog after the resolution of a protracted strike in December 2018.
The City’s Department of Public Safety, Licensing Directorate has been engaging with the Gauteng Provincial Department of Transport to resolve the backlog relating to the applications made in Johannesburg.
We are glad to announce that we have agreed on a solution to ensure that outstanding driving license cards are issues within seven days for those applications made between July to August 2018.
The applicants are advised to visit the licensing centre where their applications were initially made, re-submit for eye –tests and update their details.
Once all updates are done, the Licensing Centre will ensure that card licenses are ready for collection at that licensing centre within seven working days.
There are no additional costs to be paid by the applicant, eye sight test reports done by qualified opticians/ professionals are also accepted. Priority Desks will be set up at ALL licensing centres so the qualifying applicants will not have to wait in the ordinary queues.
MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun says “We apologise for the frustration and the inconvenience of having to re-submit for eye sight test and update of details, we want to assure our customers that we will find all possible solutions for speedy delivery of those long outstanding driving licenses. This is our commitment to ensure that the Licensing Centre services are stepped up”.
