On Wednesday afternoon, an operations manager at the Glenanda Clinic was arrested for stealing a desktop computer.

The City official is currently detained at the Mondeor Police Station and is expected to appear in court today.

The City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service Department (GFIS) received a tip off that a desktop computer belonging to the City was pawned at Cash Crusaders in Rosettenville, South of Johannesburg.

The GFIS team together with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) then rushed to the Cash Crusaders and identified the stolen desktop. The official submitted a copy of his identity document and his proof of address. The team then approached the official and questioned him, he admitted that the desktop was stolen from his work station at Glenanda Clinic.

I would like to thank the Joburg resident for refusing to part of any corrupt activity and reporting the incident to our team which acted swiftly.

I am disappointed to learn that there are still people in the system who are still involved or engaged in corrupt activities. This is despite the fact that we continuously educate employees about fraud and corruption.  We have zero tolerance for corruption.

Corruption has no place in this administration and we will work tirelessly, and in collaboration with institutions such as the Hawks, Saps and all other institutions within the criminal justice system to ensure that the residents of Johannesburg receive the quality services they deserve.

I would also like to encourage people to report any fraud and corruption activities through our 24hour tipoff hotline 0800 002 587 or visit the GFIS offices situated at 48 Ameshoff Street in Braamfontein.
