I am pleased to announce that Johannesburg Water, the City of Johannesburg’s water utility, is undertaking an emergency R1,7 million pipe replacement project in Riverclub to combat the frequent water interruptions in the area.
The Emergency Water Pipe Replacement at the corner of Coleraine Drive and Gnu Lane in Riverclub is expected to be completed early next year. The primary scope of work includes the installation of about 750m of a 110mm diameter High Impact uPVC Class 16 pipe using labour intensive methods.
Johannesburg Water’s pipe replacement programme will ensure that the number of bursts per kilometre and the number of blockages per kilometre across the City are reduced, resulting in improved levels of service to residents of Johannesburg.
During the 2018/19 financial year, 42 977 burst pipes occurred, which is a decline from the 43 301 burst pipes in the 2017/18 financial year and 45 177 burst pipes reported in 2016/17 financial year.
Indeed, this decrease is because of improved pressure management and the accelerated pipe replacement programme across Joburg.
We will continue to invest in these capital projects, addressing the R170 billion inherited infrastructure backlog that has been the cause of immense frustration among residents.
Through projects like these, this multi-party administration will continue to deliver real change to Johannesburg.
