An impressive crowd of over 20, 000 people turned up to witness some of the best live acts perform at the annual Jazz on the Lake Festival, yesterday – providing the most thrilling introduction to the 27th edition of Arts Alive.
The City of Johannesburg successfully unveiled the month-long 2019 Arts Alive International Festival programme at the Joburg Theatre, this past weekend.
This year, Vusi Nova, TRC featuring Afrika Mkhize, Michel Herrera and the Madre Tierra Band (Cuba), Bucie, Sjava, Tamy Moyo (Zimbabwe), Ami Faku, Billy Manama, and Ark of Arts graced the stage.
Reya Vaya Buses shuttled residents from Marks Park, Metro Centre, Killarney Mall and Maponya Mall and back, to ensure minimum congestion to the roads leading to the venue and the inconvenience that may have been caused to the residents of the area around Zoo Lake.
“I am delighted once again that we could organise and deliver an event of such magnitude for our residents to enjoy. Thanks to all parties involved we had an incident-free event, and I would like to urge residents to continue abiding by the rules of each venue where Arts Alive events will be hosted throughout the rest of the month,” said Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba.
The festival will continue until the end of September at various venues across the City, with most of the shows free to allow all our residents, especially the poor and previously marginalised, an opportunity to enjoy the festivities.
The City of Johannesburg is proud to have partnered with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to bring the Intellectual Property Roadshow, the Outreach Foundation to host the 15th Inner City High School Drama Festival, Global Dance Supreme (Intercontinental African Championship), Showbiz Entertainment Africa (SEAfrica), Soweto Arts and Craft and Eyethu Lifestyle, Beat Makers, and the Alexandra Arts Academy to bring the 27th offering of this festival of homegrown and international entertainment.
Residents can find out about other events by checking for posters around the City, or by following @CoJCommunityDev or @Arts_Alive on Twitter.
