The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo, on behalf of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Council and residents, extends his heartfelt condolences to the Nkadimeng family on the passing of struggle hero, Isithwalandwe/Seaparankoe, Ntate John Nkadimeng.

Ntate Nkadimeng passed at the age of 93 on Thursday, 06 August 2020. 

Ntate Nkadimeng was detained during the Defiance campaign in 1952 and was one of the 156 Congress activists charged with treason in the 1956 Treason Trial. He also played an immense role in the formation of the Congress of South Africa Trade Unions (COSATU).
 

Ntate Nkadimeng was bestowed with the order of Luthuli in Gold for dedicating his entire adult life to the struggle for liberation, worker’s rights and for the formation of united federation of trade unions, this is a true reflection of his immense contribution to the advancement of this country.

“He was at the forefront of fighting for worker’s rights. We will remember him for his selfless contribution and dedication to the struggles of workers and the working class in general. He was a true servant of the people of South Africa and a remarkable patriot” said Mayor Makhubo.

“Ntate Nkadimeng’s contribution to the advancement of South Africa did not end in 1994, he further went to represent South Africa in Cuba post 1994 as an Ambassador, forging strong relations with Cubans on behalf of South Africa. A true embodiment of selfless leadership,” added Mayor Makhubo

“Until his last day, Ntate Nkadimeng was a resident and stalwart of this great and world class African City, Johannesburg. In his memory as a City we remain committed to the creation of a transparent, ethical and selfless city government focused on the aspirations and needs of the people who call this wonderful City, home.” added Mayor Mkahubo

“His contributions will live on forever especially to the working class. Our thoughts are with the Nkadimeng family, friends and the residents of Johannesburg” concluded Mayor Makhubo
