The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr. Geoffery Makhubo, on behalf of residents of Johannesburg congratulate one of the biggest community radio station in Johannesburg, Jozi FM as they celebrate 25 years in radio broadcasting.
“Congratulations to Jozi FM for setting the bar high by reaching over two decades of excellence broadcasting milestone while also driving transformation.
The establishment of Jozi FM 25 years ago has ensured that various institutions such as government come closer to the people.” Said Mayor Makhubo
“Jozi FM reflects our diversity and has over the years reported frankly on our challenges but not watering down our remarkable achievements as the City, while also offering a voice to the community of Johannesburg. It is for this reason that the station has over the years witnessed excessive increase of listenership” added Mayor Makhubo
The community radio sector is a critical communication platform that ensures access to information in communities as a means towards the creation of an informed citizenry.
“Local government is at the core of service delivery as it is the sphere of government closest to the people. Jozi FM has played a critical role by providing information, educating and entertaining local communities for 25 years. This radio station has formed the integral part of local development initiatives and we applaud them for the role they continue to play” said Mayor Makhubo
“As the Government of Local Unity, we are committed to ensuring that Jozi FM is provided with the requisite support to ensure its effectiveness in providing information to the most vulnerable and sometime isolated communities in Johannesburg.” Said Mayor Makhubo
