The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo, and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing, Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso, will officially launch the Dobsonville Social Housing project and welcome over 200 beneficiaries into their new homes.

The Dobsonville Project is one of the City’s Mega Social Housing Project developed and management by JOSHCO and it is partly funded by the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).

The City has invested over R200 million into the development of the project located at 11 065 Motseeme Street, Dobsonville Ext2. Construction started in 2014 as part of the City’s ongoing attempt to alleviate the shortage of housing in Joburg.

The completion and allocation of the Dobsonville project was scheduled for December 2019. Due to community protests, progress on development was significantly hindered, which precipitated urgent remedial actions.

During the construction of this project, a significant number of jobs were created and the labour for construction was drawn from the surrounding communities. In this way, residents of the area were involved in the development of their community and they benefitted financially as well as acquired additional skills.

The event will be held as follows:
Date: 01 February 2020
Time: 10:00 – 12:00
Venue: 11065 Motseeme Street, Dobsonville, Soweto
