​The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg and leader of the Government of Local Unity, Cllr. Geoffery Makhubo, today, 11 March 2020, announced the Boards and Chairperson of Municipal Entities in the City.

At the 19th Annual General Meeting of the City held today at the Roodepoort Theatre, reports and resolutions of the various Boards were presented including a presentation by the Auditor-General on the finances of the City for the financial year that ended on 30 June 2019.

 

The Executive Mayor has directed the newly appointed Boards and Chairpersons to immediately hit the ground running for the role they have assumed is one that requires commitment, selfless service and ethical conduct.

“Municipal entities are critical vehicles for service-delivery in the City and their functioning is critical in ensuring that the City achieves the objectives set out in the Growth and Development Strategy 2040 of the City."

“The entities must execute their responsibilities diligently, protect and use the finances of the entities for the purposes for which they have been allocated and in line with the applicable laws that govern the management of municipal finances and desist from engaging in tasks and responsibilities that are not in line with their appointments as non-executive board members" said Mayor Makhubo.

 

The newly appointed Chairpersons are:

 

  • Johannesburg Social Housing Company – Mr. Zithulele Dlamini
  • Johannesburg Roads Agency – Dr. Albert Mokoena 
  • Metrobus – Mr. Thapelo Mkhwanazi
  • City Power – Mr. William Mathamela
  • Johannesburg Water – Mr. Sibusiso Buthelezi
  • Pikitup – Ms. Getty Simelane
  • Johannesburg Development Agency – Mr. Papi Kganare
  • Joburg Market – Mr. Simon Carl Clarke
  • Johannesburg Property Company – Mr. Caswell Rampheri
  • Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC) – Ms. Chinelle Stevens
  • Joburg City Theatres – Mr. Desmond Ndzipho
  • Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo – Mr. Mahlubi Madela
  • Johannesburg Tourism Company- Adv. Cawekazi Mahlati

     

    Mayor Makhubo also welcomed those who are returning to the city and those who served the city and thanked the outgoing Non-Exec Directors of boards for serving the entities selflessly.

    A report presented by Mr. Msizi Mavundla from the office of the Auditor-General, indicates that only two of the 13 entities received a clean audit in the 2018/19 financial year. 'We hope that the entities will work tirelessly to turn the situation around and bring back good governance in the City of Johannesburg and reprioritize the delivery of services." Said Mayor Makhubo

     

    “The boards of entities should focus on service delivery, preservation to build shareholder value and the sustainability of entities" Said Mayor Makhubo

     

    The Annual General Meeting considered directors report, the social and ethics committees report, the annual financial statements and the audit committees report of the City of Johannesburg for financial year 2018/19. The office of the Auditor-General also recommended that the management should strengthen the internal controls relating to the preparation and review of annual financial statements and annual performance report to ensure the reports are free from material misstatements.
