The City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) Cllr Mpho Moerane takes pleasure in informing residents of Region A that the separation at source programme will resume on Monday 09 November 2020. Region A covers the areas serviced by Pikitup’s Midrand depot.

The separation at source programme, which has been operational in the area since 2018, was not rendered last month (October) because the contract that the waste management company had with the service provider came to an end. The latter had been contracted to render separation at source services in Region A.

Pikitup has not renewed the contract and has taken a decision to render the same service in-house henceforth. Therefore, Pikitup internal resources will be used to render the separation at source service in the entire region, stating from Monday.

MMC would like to thank the residents for their patience during the delay in the resumption of the programme. The service will be rendered as per the previous schedule, and
Pikitup will furnish residents in Region A with the separation at source plastic bags and collect them as per the previous collection schedule.

Residents are also reminded that they will receive their recyclable plastic bags as per the norm, and that they should place all their recyclable materials into such bags for collection by Pikitup personnel on their scheduled collection days.
