The City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina, has expressed shock and sadness following the recent death of three City of Joburg Health officials.
The three men have been identified as Tebogo Parks (31), who was an Admin Assistant at Siphumlile Clinic; Moeketsi Hlazo (33), a Health Promoter at Sol Plaatjie Clinic, and Sam Makhato Pale (34), a Health Promoter based at Siphumlile Clinic all in Region C.
They passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning on 29 October after the driver of the car in which they were travelling lost control. It is believed that the accident happened at a sharp curve in Umbuluzi Avenue in Phase 2 Braamfischer,
Shocked family members said it was not immediately clear what the cause of the accident was or where the young men were travelling from. However, they confirmed that following the accident; the car also burst into flames and the occupants were all burnt as they tried to get out. The fourth occupant of the car has still not been identified.
Said MMC Mgcina: “I am really saddened at the tragic passing of these young officials. My deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones including the staff and management at both Siphumlile and Sol Plaatjie Clinics.
“What is also really painful is that as Health Promoters, they were at the heart of our work in the Health Department as the link between the clinic and the communities we serve. Our work is all the poorer at the tragic loss of these young lives and may their souls rest in peace.”
MMC Mgcina, who will visit the families of the deceased, also appealed to all drivers to always be alert on the road and exercise extreme care and caution, especially when travelling at night and on rainy days when visibility is diminished.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
